Texans Recap: Positive Outlook

Not a Total Loss for the Houston Texans

Ben-Tate

Okay, okay! So the Houston Texans dropped the preseason game to the New Orleans Saints...and? I don't put too much into the loss all things considered. Watching the game I saw plenty of things to be happy about with this years Houston Texans team. If you watched, I'm sure you noticed them too and feel pretty happy about the game overall.

Texans Run Game In Prime Form

Dennis-Johnson-Houston-TexansThe Houston Texans ran the ball incredibly well. Ben Tate showed without a doubt that he can definitely lead this team in the unfortunate event that Foster were to go down. He looked very strong and decisive. He will contribute largely in a timeshare with Arian Foster

The guy that really caught my eye was RB Dennis Johnson. I really liked the quick thinking he showed and his ability to hit the hole as soon as he saw an opening. Deji Karim is a talented back as well, but I think Dennis Johnson showed a style that fits perfectly with the Houston Texans run plan. Quick cuts and get downhill, whereas Karim tends to sit in the backfield and dance around looking for a hole. I feel like Johnson should make the cut and can actually contribute in 3rd down occasions. If Foster has to miss any time, I see him being a valuable back up to Ben Tate as well.

Other Notes

I really like the way the starting offense looked against a revamped Saints defense that aquired Rob Ryan in the off season. The Houston Texans run game totally gashed their defensive live. Matt Schaub also looked very quick with his release finding receiver early and accurately. The "Old Man" Andre showed that he is far from done showing that besides Megatron, he is the best WR in the game. Despite not having Arian Foster, the run game moved the ball easily. Despite not having JJ Watt, the defense looked fast and aggressive against the Saints #1's. The only thing missing was the fact that neither WR I looked for to step up did so. I know De'Andre will be explosive for the Texans, but it would be nice to have another option at WR. The TD that our #1 defense gave up was a freak accident as two players ran into each other while Pierre Thomas ran 51 yards on a dump off. I don't put too much emphasis on that score. All and all, our Houston Texans looked great in my opinion and I cannot wait for the regular season to begin. One more preseason game to go, although it is nothing but a scrimmage for players trying to make the cut. Don't expect any starters to play in this one. It's almost time for the Bulls on Parade to go into full beast mode. Are you ready for some Houston Texans football??? GO TEXANS!!!
